OUR ACADEMIC MENTORS

Our academic mentors have a wide range of expertise and come from diverse backgrounds. Many of our mentors are current or retired teachers, career professionals working in fields related to math and science, or are attending local universities and graduate programs. Our team members participate in training throughout the year and strive to maintain the highest level of support and professionalism.

Allyson S

Allyson is a classically trained musician with a BM in performance from the Eastman School of Music and an MM in performance from the University of Delaware. While at Eastman she completed a dual degree program and earned a BA in Economics from the University of Rochester. Allyson joined Connections in 2017 and has tutors students in areas such as pre-algebra, algebra I and II, geometry, pre-calculus, AB calculus, probability and statistics, and French I-III.

Allyson has traveled the world playing her horn including Bosnia, Italy, Germany, Croatia, and England… just to name a few!

ASHLEY G.

Ashley has her Master's in English and is in her 12th year as a teacher currently teaching AP. As such and yes, slightly cliché, reading and writing are two major hobbies. She also looks for any chance to travel abroad or find local adventures in Cincinnati.

CATHERINE P.

Catherine graduated with her Master of Education from Bowling Green State University in 2012. She has taught middle school and high school math in Puerto Rico for three years before returning to Cincinnati. She has taught Pre-calculus, algebra 2, and geometry at CCDS for the past five year. Outside of school she enjoys exercising, cooking/baking, and spending time with friends. She is currently working on renovating her kitchen and planning her wedding this fall.

CHRIS B.

Chris has been with Connections since August of 2019. He has been a teacher for 6 years. He graduated from Northern Kentucky University where he majored in Middle Childhood Education with a concentration in math and science. He spent the last 5 years teaching math at Walnut Hills. When he isn't tutoring or coaching he likes to stay active in sports (mostly volleyball). He plays in tournaments on the weekends when he is not coaching JV volleyball or club volleyball. Also, he enjoys being outside hiking and loves gardening. When he has a spare weekend he also enjoys horseback riding.

ERIN M.

Erin is a German teacher in Cincinnati Public Schools with a B.S in German Education from Miami University and a MAEd in Administration from Xavier University. She has taught for 12 years and loves learning and teaching languages, as well as helping students in all content areas reach their potential. Having lived in Munich, Germany, travel is very important to her. When not traveling, Erin enjoys musical theatre, singing and watching soccer.

EMILY J.

Emily graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. She was born and raised in Cincinnati and is currently a nanny to seven-year-old twins. Emily is a dog mom to Eden Abilene, who is named after one of our local parks. She enjoys exploring Cincinnati with her dog, friends, and family. When not working, Emily also is a serious UC football and basketball fan, so you can find her at the games or wearing red and black in the off-season. Go Bearcats!

Evan is a student at the University of Cincinnati studying Secondary Education with a focus in mathematics. He's from Oxford, OH and enjoys watching and playing sports like basketball and football. Evan also loves to cook and spend time with family and friends. He has experience tutoring and assisting students with homework. Evan is ready to help students learn math as well as science and social studies.

GREG F.

Greg has been a math teacher his entire adult life. When he first moved to Cincinnati, he taught at Winton Woods High School for 6 years. He was hired right out of college and started teaching AP Calculus at age 22. From there he taught at Colerain High School for 4 years, after which he moved to Cincinnati Country Day School where he am currently in his 13th year. Greg has taught pretty much every subject you can imagine: Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, Linear Algebra, and everything in between. Additionally, he has been the Math Department Chair at CCDS for about 7 years, and also coaches the Varsity Golf Team.

JENNIFER W.

Jennifer Wilkey is a homeschool mom of two girls. Before parenthood, she taught Latin I through Advanced Placement at St. Ursula Academy In Cincinnati. She has a master's degree in Classics from the University of Cincinnati, and a bachelor's degree from Indiana University. She has tutored students in all levels of Latin and has been teaching it to her kids since they were very little. She loves camping, historical fiction, crochet, and hanging out with her identical twin sister.

LAINEY S.

Lainey is a third year Mechanical Engineering Technology student with a minor in Robotics & Automation at the University of Cincinnati. She's from Cleveland, OH, enjoys golf, playing piano, and yoga. Lainey has experience tutoring in all subjects, and is great at organizing school work!

LAUREN H.

Lauren currently works at Withrow University, a Cincinnati Public School, teaching high school health classes. She is also as an academic adviser, ensuring student athletes are prepared for the collegiate athletic world. In the past, Lauren held positions as a physical education teacher and a special education coordinator working with students on IEPs. In her spare time, Lauren's goal is to visit all 50 states before she turns 40. As of now, she has visited 41 making only 9 more for her to complete! Lauren has been with Connections for over 5 years.

LAYLA P.

Layla is a fifth year at the University of Cincinnati who will be graduating Summer 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Public Relations and certificate in Business Management. She is TEFL certified and has been virtually teaching English as a foreign language abroad. She is originally from Orlando, Florida and loves going to Walt Disney World with her family. When she's not spending time with her friends and family, she loves to stay active. From yoga, to hiking and nature walks, or just enjoying the scenery.

MAEVE C.

Maeve is a recent University of Cincinnati graduate, with a bachelor's in Special Education, and is working for Cincinnati Public Schools. She has been living in Cincinnati for 4 years, and loving every minute! Outside of teaching, Maeve enjoys any activity to keep active - hiking, swimming, soccer, rock climbing, kayaking, spending time with her dog, friends, and my family.

SHANNON O.

Shannon is a former tutor with Connections Academics and is back for her second time. Shannon currently lives in Columbia, SC, where she received her Master's in School Psychology from the University of South Carolina. Although currently living in South Carolina, Shannon grew up in Cincinnati and still calls it home. As a tutor, Shannon specializes in organizational and study skills and has unique experience and expertise working with children with ADHD and Autism. Shannon works in insurance law as a policy associate and advocate at the Autism Legal Resource Center.

SLOAN D.

Sloan received her bachelor’s degree in art and worked in the fields of architecture and graphic design for a number of years. She made a career shift in the direction of teaching, after falling in love with Montessori approach to learning as she observed her young son learn in the Montessori environment. Sloan returned to school and received her Masters of Education in Montessori Education. Soon after receiving her Masters, she began her long tenure at Cincinnati Country Day School as a lead Montessori teacher and then a second grade teacher. Sloan received her training and certification in Orton-Gillingham language intervention technique and has tutored privately for several years. Sloan loves to share the joy of learning with her students!

Akash B.

Akash Bakshi is currently a fourth-year Information Technology student attending the University of Cincinnati. His subject areas include English, elementary - middle school mathematics, and general college readiness. In his spare time, he enjoys playing tennis, writing, and spending time with friends.

Brett W.

Brett is a junior at Xavier University majoring in Biomedical Sciences. He is originally from Olympia, Washington but has ventured east in order to pursue an academic and athletic career at Xavier. He has been a competitive swimmer for 13 years specializing in the 1650 and 200 Butterfly. In his downtime, he enjoys hiking, photography, and eating gluten and dairy-free food.

Carolyn W.

Carrie is an Intervention Specialist for Lakota Local Schools. Carrie recently finished her seventh year of teaching. She earned her master’s degree from Wright State University and her bachelor’s degree from Xavier University. Carrie enjoys spending her time with family and friends and watching college sports.

Emily S.

Emily grew up in Perrysburg, Ohio before attending college at Miami University. She majored in Early Childhood Education and taught third grade in the Southwest Local School District for 5 years. She also taught PreK, 1st, and 2nd-grade "Zoo Troop" classes at the Cincinnati Zoo. Emily enjoys creating fun and engaging lessons for elementary-aged students, and loves to see their confidence grow. In her free time, Emily can be found trying new recipes, reading, and hiking.

Halle T.

Halle Tremaglio has been a high school math teacher for the past 12 years. She has a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics Education from Miami University and a Master's degree in Mathematics for Teaching from the University of Cincinnati. She is currently teaching in Cincinnati Public Schools and has several years of tutoring experience. She really enjoys musical theater and travels to New York City at least once a year to see several shows on broadway!!!! Halle can tutor for almost any math course, but her subjects of strength include Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 and Calculus AB.

Hunter M.

Hunter is currently a 5th-year student at the University of Cincinnati majoring in Mechanical Engineering and minoring in Robotics. His interest include sports (primarily basketball and football), playing piano and guitar, and reading. Hunter loves working with other people and enjoys learning and teaching math. He hopes to not only improve his own skills but to help others as well.

Jana M.

Jana is currently a science teacher at Withrow University High school in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 2015, she graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor’s in Biological Sciences with a minor in Chemistry. During her studies as an undergraduate, she worked as a Supplemental Instructor (tutor) for Organic Chemistry and was an ATA for the Microbiology lab. She also did an internship with UC’s Women of Science program and collaborated on cancer delivery research. The published research she conducted was presented at the American Science Foundation Convention in Boston, MA. She began her teaching career in 2016 and has since taught Physical Science, Chemistry, Biology, and Honors Biology. She has also taught Biology for health professions at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. She is comfortable tutoring Biology, AP Biology, Physical Science, and Chemistry. During her free time, she enjoys baking, hiking, hanging out with friends, playing video games, and loving on her fur-babies.

Jennifer J.

Jennifer is an experienced educator, parent, and school administrator. Driven by her love and innate understanding of children, she aims to create environments where equity and acceptance, kindness and compassion, and wellness and inquiry are the norms. Jennifer received her undergraduate degree in Child Development at Sacramento State University and her Masters in Elementary Education with a reading endorsement from Walden University. She has also received certification in treating anxiety. Jennifer has extensive experience with dyslexia, ADHD, behavior, and developmental differences. Jennifer believes every child is shaped by the world they live in and the people who surround them. Every child has the potential to be inspired, taught, loved, and nurtured in order to become their best self.

John C.

John has been teaching mathematics for the past two decades. Before teaching at Cincinnati Country Day School, John worked in boarding schools on the east coast for thirteen years where he taught all levels of high school math and was the varsity football and baseball coach. At CCDS, John is the Director of Scheduling, the Dean of Students, and teaches in the Upper School Mathematics Department.

Jordan S.

Jordan is a Cincinnati native who graduated with a bachelor's degree in Neuroscience from the University of Cincinnati. After working with teens in college, she discovered her passion for teaching. She returned to UC and received her Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction to be able to teach high school science. Jordan spent several years teaching a variety of science courses as a high school teacher. She is now a stay-at-home mom to her three young children. Since leaving the classroom, Jordan has stayed involved in education by leading educator professional developments, teaching ACT prep courses, consulting for a testing company, and tutoring for Connections. She loves good food, running, and traveling with her family.

Kevin M.

Kevin is a Senior in the Lindner College of Business at the University of Cincinnati. He is currently pursuing his BS in Business Analytics. Kevin worked as a Chef for a decade, and owned and operated his own meal delivery service. Currently, Kevin enjoys cooking for his wife, watching football and soccer, drawing, reading, coding, and learning!

Matt D.

Matt has been a full-time Upper School Science teacher at Cincinnati Country Day school since 1996. During this time, he has taught Honor Freshman Science, Honors Biology, AP Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geophysical Science, and Algebra I. Most recently, Matt has been teaching Honors Freshman Science (Approximately on semester of Honors-level Biology and one semester of Chemistry) and Physics. In addition, Matt is a faculty co-advisor for the Conservation Research Program at CCDS. Matt is interested in tutoring Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

Pat D.

After teaching high school English and college counseling for 40 years, Pat is now retired from the classroom but continuing to tutor for standardized tests and to provide college advising. She earned her B.A. from Colgate University and an M.A. in English Literature from Middlebury College. She continues to coach high school golf and lacrosse at Cincinnati Country Day School, where she spent 34 years, the last 18 as the English Department Chair. She lives in Milford with her husband Tim. Her grown children, both CCDS graduates, live on the East Coast.

Rachel C.

Rachel is a French teacher at CCDS and has taught for almost 20 years. She graduated from Xavier University (B.A.; M.Ed.) and Chase College of Law (J.D.) She also studied at the Sorbonne in Paris, France, and at the Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. Her tutoring experience includes French, Spanish (basic), ELL, reading comprehension (in English), and organizational/study skills. When she isn’t working with students, Rachel enjoys spending time with her family outdoors, reading, writing, and cooking.
